What is MicroNeedling?

Microneedling is great for rejuvenating the look of your skin.

Hi there! I’m Terry Fox, Licensed Acupuncturist and owner of Fox Haven Aesthetics in Windsor, CO. I help women feel confident in their own skin. And, I really enjoy offering Microneedling to my patients. So, what’s Microneedling?

It’s simply a modern adaptation of a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique called Plum Blossom Needling. Plum Blossom Needling increases local Qi and Blood circulation (this means more nourishment for your skin) and helps clear redness caused by Internal Heat. (That means reduced inflammation and a clearer complexion.) 

In Microneedling, instead of using a Traditional Plum Blossom needle, I use a motorized stamping pen. The pen has needles so small they don’t even penetrate completely through the entire skin. From a modern perspective, stamping the skin does a couple of things. One, it helps your skincare products absorb more effectively. Two, it stimulates your body’s innate capacity for rejuvenation by inducing a “healing cascade.”

Basically, we’re fooling the body to think there’s a skin injury to repair even though no true injury has actually occurred.

So, the body responds by producing more collagen and elastin – these are building blocks of your skin. And that gives your skin more strength, elasticity, and glow. 

A typical session lasts about an hour. It’s not particularly painful. However, depending upon your personal constitution, you might find certain areas of the face more sensitive than others. I do apply CBD oil prior to needling to help reduce that sensitivity. Immediately after the treatment, you’ll feel kind of like you’ve had slight sunburn. This too can be alleviated with a cooling Hyaluronic Acid serum or mask. There’s no down time. And it’s best to only be treated like this once a month. It takes time for the skin to work through the “healing cascade” and doing any more treatments wouldn’t be effective. 

If you’d like more frequent work, Aesthetic Facial Acupuncture is the go to treatment. Twice per week treatments are optimal for most folks. And it works to increase your general health and addresses both the skin and the musculature of the face. Microneedling doesn’t do that. It’s a skin only kind of thing. However, when you see an Acupuncturist for Microneedling, we can combine Microneedling and Acupuncture together for some very effective results. You won’t see that in an Esthetician’s or an MD’s office.
