What is Snapchat Dysmorphia?
Snapchat Dysmorphia is a term that Plastic Surgeons are using to describe a patient’s request to make them look like a Snapchat Filter. Many teens are falling prey to this pathogenic mindset. And, this is disconcerting because these thoughts can be a precursor to Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
Parents are allowing their teens as young as 13 to undergo serious cosmetic procedures like Botox® and breast augmentation.
Before your teen puts toxins in their face, or goes under a scalpel, know there’s an alternative. It promotes a healthy mind/body. And, it works with their body (instead of against it). It’s call Aesthetic Acupuncture. It’s part of my Natural Aesthetic Enhancement System, based on the holistic principals of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
The deeper issue here is about being comfortable in your own skin. This isn’t about comparison to others. This isn’t about vanity or narcissism. This isn’t about self-criticism. What I’m about at Artesian Spring Oriental Medicine is promoting solid self-esteem through healthy self-love.
And, to be frank, if I suspect a patient may be suffering from Body Dysmorphic Disorder, I will refer to a mental health professional. I have no problem connecting my patients with other experts who support them.
My Natural Aesthetic Enhancement System isn’t just “skin deep.”
It’s not “cosmetic.” Treatments are geared to benefit the External, Internal, and Mental/Emotional body. It addresses several levels of the whole person. Work with me and be seen deeper.
Snapchat Dysmorphia is on the rise. If you and your teen feel it’s absolutely necessary for them to receive “cosmetic” procedures, let’s talk. You have an alternative. Toxins or scalpels are not your only option. Give me a call at 970-633-0199 or email terry@artesianspringom.com.
(On a side note, watching these TV show hosts, whom I believe have undergone plastic surgery, gastric bypass, Botox®, and fillers, say that it’s what’s on the inside that counts, is sadly hypocritical.)
